Comments / Thoughts / Challenges:

  • The biggest challenge I have encountered during these demos has to be engaging customers.  Most customers were in a rush or were not interested.  In this rotation, I am really learning the importance of interpersonal skills.  These demos are very important since RD’s can really make an impact with the food choices of individuals at the store level since they are already there.
  • Northern NJ does not have a large amount of health or wellness events probably because it is so close to New York City and organizers figured that people from Northern NJ would not have a problem going to NYC to attend events.
  • Compiling a list of community partners around Newark proved to be a little challenging since there are already organizations that are working with the community to provide fresh produce through farmers markets and community gardens.
