Research Rotation – Week 2 Journal
Dates of rotation: (Monday) September 18, 2017 – (Friday) September 22, 2017
Location: CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute
Activities & Assignments:
- Fixed initial ranking because upon further research some stores were found closed.
- Re-ranked # of supermarkets, pharms, and dollar stores per community district.
- Continued ranking by revenue/community district
- RefUSA is a new database introduced by Dr. Cohen which contains more updated square footage and revenue information for some of the establishments.
- Re-ranked community districts using the new information.
Comments / Thoughts / Challenges:
- When calculating revenue per community district, the amount of Krasdale stores listed on Food Trade News was much higher than what we have in the database.
- Contacted Krasdale to ask for information about the stores they own. Not only was I denied that information but I also found out that Alpha 1 Corporation which we have as the corporate name for Krasdale stores is the marketing arm of Krasdale. Krasdale supplies the food items while Alpha 1 provides marketing and technological support to the stores. Without the list of Krasdale supplied stores, the revenue per community district ranking is considered flawed.
