  • Counseled new patients on my own
    • Preceptor observed while I conducted nutrition assessments and counseling for new clinic patients
    • Thoughts: I was very excited and eager to counsel patients on my own. I found that I enjoy counseling pregnant women. The information is pretty much the same for every patient, but it still needs to be personalized depending on the patient’s habits and condition.
    • Challenge: I struggled a bit with the calculations since I was not used to doing calculations while counseling. However, I slowly got used to the flow of the counseling session and felt more comfortable by the end of the day.
    • We recommend breastfeeding, drinking milk, following a healthy diet, and exercising to all of our patients and show them evidence as to how these are beneficial during their pregnancy using scientific evidence and data.
  • Calculations and charting of all the new assessments
    • Thoughts: I’m getting used to charting. The only part that takes me a little longer is developing a PES statement.

Tuesday (8:30 am – 4:30 pm) 8 hours

  • Staff huddle
  • Counseled high-risk and regular OB patients
    • Calculations
    • Thoughts: We had so many patients today. I don’t know how one RD in this clinic can handle all of the OB clinic patients. It is a challenging position.

Friday (8:30 am – 4:30 pm) 8 hours

    • Thoughts: All staff from ambulatory care has a chance to raise questions and concerns. It was interesting to observe the concerns that the workers had when it comes to how management is set up.
