Research Week 4

Research Rotation – Week 4 Journal

Dates of rotation: (Wednesday) October 18, 2017 – (Tuesday) October 24, 2017

Location: CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute

Activities & Assignments:

  • Read articles regarding food access and food insecurity and compiled an annotated bibliography to be used for a research article.

Comments / Thoughts / Challenges:

  • Articles regarding measuring food access were contradictory with some articles concluding that measuring food access is complex since the food retail environment is constantly changing.  Most of the research articles suggested that “ground truthing” or going out into the field to check the presence of supermarkets, restaurants, convenience stores, and other food retail places is the best way to measure food access in a particular city, town, or neighborhood.
