Research Rotation – Week 3 Journal
Dates of rotation: (Monday) September 25, 2017 – (Friday) September 29, 2017
Location: CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute
Activities & Assignments:
- Finished supermarket rankings.
- Picked 2 community districts for field work
- Came up with criteria for field work visit (number of registers, EBT/WIC accepted, near public transportation, cleanliness, variety, number of staff, delivery service, prices of certain food products such as whole what bread, pasta, milk, eggs, rice, cereal)
- Visited Inwood and Washington Heights Community District 112) for field work
- Looked at stores and filled in criteria
- Took pictures
- Visited East Harlem (Community District 111) for field work
- Looked at stores and filled in criteria
- Took pictures
- 1 store was closed so rankings had to be updated
- Filled in spreadsheet file for field work
- Wrote notes for future Research Assistant
- Finalized Database Information and notes for research rotation
- NEMS Training (NUTRITION ENVIRONMENT MEASURES SURVEY)
- To prepare for field work for the Communities for Healthy Food Program (Policy Rotation)
Comments / Thoughts / Challenges:
- Walking around at the stores looking for prices because some products did not have proper signs so I had to look for someone and ask for assistance.
